Personal Work : studio furniture |
Whether I'm working with new or recycled wood, glass, stone or metal, the materials often influence the direction I take the design. In my personal work I tend to use whatever material I come across that inspirers me. It could be material that's stored in the shop or random free-cycled objects I find here and there. Having to work within the set physical perimeters of found objects with given limitations can be particularly challenging, but a lot of fun! I enjoy the critical thinking required to transform these otherwise discarded objects into something entirely new and relevant again, and perhaps even a little nostalgic.
The journey, the exploration, the whole creative thought process to create something unique, evocative, and maybe a little 'unexpected' is why I love doing what I do. In every new project I not only learn about the materials I work with and the many secrets they hold, but there are moments of introspection and I learn about myself as an artist, maker… |
